Blue Boxfish

Blue Boxfish are striking reef fish with pronounced sexual dimorphism—males display vibrant blue bodies with black caps and white-speckled patterns, while females are solid black with white dots. These fish demand expert-level care and a minimum 180-gallon tank. They're prone to nibbling tubeworms in reef environments and release toxic ostracitoxin when stressed, which can be lethal to tank mates. Feed live brine shrimp or bloodworms initially, then transition to chopped squid, clams, mussels, and herbivore preparations. Not recommended for beginners or community tanks. Local pickup only—this species releases toxins when stressed during transport, making in-person collection the safest option for both the fish and your aquarium. At checkout, you must select local pickup as your fulfillment method to complete your order.
