Your aquarium is more than just a tank — it’s a living ecosystem that requires precision, stability, and consistent professional care. At Saltwater Reef Co., we provide premium saltwater and freshwater aquarium maintenance services throughout the North Shore and Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

Whether you own a reef aquarium, fish-only system, custom installation, or luxury display tank, our team focuses on keeping your aquarium healthy, crystal clear, and operating at its highest level.

We don’t just “clean tanks.”
We monitor, maintain, inspect, test, adjust, and protect your entire aquatic system.

What’s Included In Our Maintenance Service

Complete System Inspection

Every visit begins with a detailed inspection of the aquarium, sump, plumbing, pumps, filtration systems, lighting, and life-support equipment to ensure everything is operating safely and efficiently.

Professional Water Testing

We test and monitor critical water parameters to maintain long-term stability and livestock health, including:

Salinity
pH
Alkalinity (KH)
Calcium
Magnesium
Nitrates
Phosphates

Stable parameters are the foundation of a successful aquarium.

Partial Water Changes

Regular water changes help remove excess nutrients, replenish trace elements, and maintain overall system balance.

We perform carefully controlled partial water changes based on your aquarium’s needs, bioload, and livestock requirements.

This process helps:

Improve water clarity
Reduce algae growth
Lower nutrient buildup
Support coral coloration and fish health

Deep Cleaning & Algae Control

Our maintenance service includes detailed cleaning procedures designed to keep your aquarium looking pristine while protecting beneficial bacteria and biological filtration.

Services may include:

Interior glass cleaning
Live rock brushing
Hair algae removal
Sand bed care
Detritus removal
Exterior glass polishing

We focus on maintaining a natural, healthy reef environment — not just appearance.

Equipment Maintenance

Proper equipment maintenance is critical for long-term aquarium success.

We inspect and service:

Protein skimmers
Return pumps
Powerheads
Filter socks
Reactors
Mechanical filtration systems
Media filtration

Dirty or neglected equipment can reduce water quality and increase system instability.

Electrical & Leak Safety Checks

Aquariums combine water and electricity, making regular safety inspections extremely important.

During maintenance visits, we inspect:

Electrical equipment
Power connections
Sump areas
Plumbing connections
Potential leaks
System performance

Our goal is to help prevent failures before they happen.
