They prefer harder, alkaline water conditions over acidic and soft water. They can adapt to a variety of salt levels if they are properly acclimated. They are peaceful fish that will do great in community tanks. Be aware that these are livebearers so when adding females and males that you can end up with more than when you started. They are omnivores and will eat just about anything you offer including flakes, pellets and frozen foods
